Track Name: Bridges
I woke up half drunk again
With my clothes in a pile on a stranger’s floor
And I swore that I’d grow up this year
But instead I’ll just keep flirting with my demons and fears

And I found no inspiration at the bottom of the bottle
Thought my foot was on the brake, but it was down on the throttle
And at the end of the day, I got what I gave
I’ll let the bridges I burn light the rest of my way

I turned 25 last summer
But I still don’t feel grown up
But I show up, and do everything I can
To hold down a job and the lovin’ of a man

The devil’s voice is oh so sweet
At least that’s what I hear these days
And I pray to land on my two feet
‘Cause I don’t look for trouble, but trouble finds me

And I found no inspiration at the bottom of the bottle
Thought my foot was on the brake, but it was down on the throttle

And at the end of the day, I got what I gave
I’ll let the bridges I burn light the rest of my way

And I know who I don’t wanna be
And change is a necessary thing
And I’m on my way

A hundred miles from Pennsylvania
Now I call this city my home
And I hope that I can heal these scars
Little by little playing songs in dive bars

And I found no inspiration at the bottom of the bottle
Thought my foot was on the brake, but it was down on the throttle
And at the end of the day, I got what I gave
I’ll let the bridges I burn light the rest of my way
I’ll let the bridges I burn light the rest of my way
Track Name: Holy Waters
Don’t go down to Holy Waters
Moonlight like champagne floats the tide
Endless waves, bleedless borders
Makes the far off rolling shore seem like the sky

We ran down to Holy Waters
Chasin’ wedding bells that skip across the bed
The ford still clearer, a rippled mirror
Shallows current slows reveals her dead

Then I was born ’neath Holy Waters
Tied and shackled, knotted ropes to unpack
Waking up didn’t feel like dying
I’m too young to die, too old for lookin’ back

So I pulled myself up
From that watery grave
And I cut my path straight to his side of town
Oh, the look on his face
As I shot that dog down
Unforgiving, livid, in my wedding gown

Oh Holy Waters
Oh Holy Waters
Oh Holy Waters
Oh Holy Waters

Now he’s gone ’neath Holy Waters
The tide a’ rippin’, rollin’, tearin’ at his soul
The wind it whines, echoes his cryin’
But the river and her song left long ago
Track Name: Crave
Met a man in a dimly lit bar
Down on Avenue A
We talked over whiskey, we talked over beer
And he never took his eyes off of me

Wasn’t long ‘til he was
In my bed half asleep
Wasn’t long ‘til he was
All I want, all I need

All my friends say I’m just a fool
For falling so hard for that man
Maybe that’s true but I can’t please ‘em all
Hell, I’m doing the best that I can

And the black and white photographs of us
Were a pretty good lookin’ start
I let down my guard now
In his hands is my heart

All of these things that I haven’t said
I’m tryin’, but I get so lost in my head
If he knows me at all it goes without sayin’
That I crave him
Oh, I crave him
The way he craves Marlboro Reds

And I’ve known a few jokers, and liars, and cheats
And we folded, and I share the blame
But this wildcard that’s been dealt to my hand
Has changed the course of my game

Still burned in my brain is the night that I drove him
Clear up the wall
All of his pain and the sight of him making that
Two story fall

All of these things that I haven’t said
I’m tryin’, but I get so lost in my head
If he knows me at all, it goes without sayin’
That I crave him
Oh, I crave him
The way he craves Marlboro Reds

Its chemical, its nicotine
I’m hopin’ he never quits me

All of these things that I haven’t said
Those three little words been dancin’ round in my head
So baby tonight I’m finally sayin’
That I love him, I crave him
Oh, I crave him
The way he crave Marlboro Reds
The way he craves Marlboro Reds
Track Name: Hangman
Hangman, you can let your hair down
Everybody knows the outlaw ain’t skippin’ this town
He’s been too long and he’s got more business here
Have a drink with him now before he disappears

Two shots, double rye and bourbon
Pour one to each man dancing around his sin
It ain’t the whiskey that gives you bloodshot eyes
You can drink tomorrow when another man dies

The outlaw took a sip and eyed him
Looking over the man who makes his fate so grim
And I’ve known rebels and I’ve known lawmen too
Either one does the best and the worst that he can do

Well then who’s a wanted man?
Every natural born killer wears the best suit that he can
And through their glare, in reflected eyes they see
That damned soul, I guess he could’ve been me

Mr. Hangman’s bells
Ring his fraught and his fray
The raucous and the rebels
Live their whole lives in a day
Does he ever get tired,
Envious or mad?
The outlaw knows freedom
In a way he never had
Had a say he never had

Mr. Hangman’s bells
Mr. Hangman’s bells
Mr. Hangman, Mr. Hangman
Mr. Hangman’s Bells
Mr. Hangman’s Bells
Track Name: Vineyard
I woke up, I woke up
In a dream, in a dream
How I know I could not say
Perhaps it was
Perhaps it was the
Unfamiliar smile on your face

The ocean erases
Erases all our traces
From the sand
The horizon, the horizon
Calls me to awake
And you to the mainland

Fly northward
Clear skies, blackbird
I’m bound wayward
And I will not stay at the vineyard

If I asked, if I asked
You would be, you would be
In the branches of your loving tree
Oh entropy
Sweet entropy
How you have saved me

Our first kiss
Is still going
Beautifully amiss
On those train
Station stairs in
Some other time
Some other where

Fly northward
Clear skies, blackbird
I’m bound wayward
And I will not stay at the vineyard

Fly northward
Clear skies, blackbird
I’m bound wayward
And I will not stay at the vineyard
Track Name: Windows Shatter
You’ve got whiskey on your breath, but so do I
And a mystery that no one can deny
And I wasn’t raised on rock ‘n roll
But I can carry a tune and that’s worth its weight in gold

Babe you know I love you, but I must confess
I’m getting sick and tired of cleaning up your mess
It doesn’t come out perfect when I speak my mind
But the world ain’t always sweet, no the world ain’t always kind

And I’m out here
Breaking my back
Oh dear
Cut me some slack
And I know you hate the sound of my voice
But I’ll keep talking ‘til the windows shatter

I don’t know what you’re thinkin’ ‘cause you never speak up
I’m not a mind reader, is there anyone you trust?
I’m walking on eggshells, I know that you’ve been hurt
But we all have our scars, we’ve all tasted dirt

And I’m out here
Breaking my back
Oh dear
Cut me some slack
And I know you hate the sound of my voice
But I’ll keep talking ‘til the windows shatter

Oh, nice guys finish last and my patience is dying fast
I’m better off tryin’ to stop the wind from blowing
You always toe the line, how can you walk without a spine?
I’m not getting any younger and I need to know

Why I’m out here
Breaking my back
Oh dear, please
Cut me a little slack
And I know you hate the sound of my voice
But I’ll keep talking ‘til the windows shatter
Track Name: Where the Trains Don't Go
Where the trains don’t go
Hear the young babe cry
Where the black tar drips
And the vultures fly
Not a betting man
Father crossed his heart
He’ll follow his path
Behind at the start
How would he know
Where the trains don’t go

Where the trains don’t go
Brings his whiskey to bed
Whispers he loves you
As he lays down his head
But the stink on his breath
And his fingers ice cold
Tell the tale of a man
Who will never grow old
He don’t know
Where the trains don’t go

Where the trains don’t go
There’s a junkie up the road
He ain’t got one damn dollar
His soul’s bought and sold
Livin’s easy off the tracks
With that monkey on your back
Though your teeth may turn black
It’ll feed what you lack

Where the trains don’t go
That’s not where I’ll be
I’m leaving this town
With those tracks behind me
These rails may be endless
How long? I don’t know
I bought my ticket
From where the trains don’t go
Track Name: Trip the Light
Your lips spelled trouble
When you got up on that stage
Your eyes shine double
When you read it on the page
A music box dancer
Spun around uneven planes
The whirlpool of life
Leaves you feeling kind of strange

Trip the light, fantastic
It winds your ticking heart
Save tonight for dancing
You know you had me from the start

An endless ballet
Of countless musicals
Time melts you down
In a fiery crucible
But they’re false as hell
If they call you usual
You know darling
Even your mistakes are beautiful

Trip the light, fantastic
It winds your ticking heart
Save tonight for dancing
You know you had me from the start

Your lips spelled trouble
When you got up on that stage
And I’ll be damned if you
Don’t do it all again
I’ll take what’s given
‘Cause I want to start livin’
So you shake it up
And you push me ‘round
And you set the beat and you
Spin me off my feet
When the lights go down
I’ll be around
Right there at the end
If you need a friend
You know who to call

Trip the light, fantastic
It winds your ticking heart
Save tonight for dancing
You know you had me from the start
You know you had me from the start
Track Name: The Dirt & the Earth
If it’s not too much trouble
I think I’m done being alone
For the dirt and the earth, they call my body home
They cuddle with my bones
And gone the spirit’s flown

It’s midnight forever, I haunt this empty hole
And the neon walkways, where once roamed my soul
I feel the thunder roll
And living takes it toll

When darkness claws at the edge of sunlight
And the roar of cannon fire splits the night
And dying’s the only thing left to do
I might believe in miracles, but I won’t believe in you

You can see me running for my life
Kicking up trails in the pale moonlight
I hear the devil, he cry
I long for your touch, but my senses dun lie

Cause if I’m in hell there’s got to be at least one of you near
It would appear the end has just begun
You can see it down the river, it is deep as it is wide
The ferryman's not charging anyone

Eternity’s clawing at the edge of my eye
I want to scream and let my trampled spirit fly
Running’s the only thing left to do
The temperature’s unbearable, but I love all of you

Each damn night, well they tear me to pieces
And in the morning make me whole again
And if I fight, they won’t ever leave me
You’ll always break if you don’t bend

So see me running for my life
Kicking up trails in the pale moonlight
I hear the devil, she cry
I long for your touch, but my senses dun lie
Once more, hang my head low
Stranded on the ground where the angels don’t go
Last time over the top
They’re dancing in the sky, but my running don’t stop

See me run
Track Name: Those Nights
Her pretty face hides the demons and disgrace
Buried beneath all the pink and the lace
Only nineteen, you don’t know what she’s seen
Cheating and screaming and fluoxetine

Ah, ah
Again and again it replays in her head
And the pills on the counter won’t drown out the dread
And the scream on her lips goes forever unsaid

She was eighteen when she gave it away
At a strip club down in memphis that summer day
The platinum leather stuck to her thigh
And she buried her head in his suit and tie

Ah, ah
Again and again it replays in her head
And she stares at the wall with her eyes bloodshot red
And the scream on her lips goes forever unsaid

When she closes her eyes, those nights come alive
She couldn’t tell you the last time she cried
Now every Sunday, she kneels down to pray
She asks God to take her pain away

Ah, ah
Again and again it replays in her head
And even Catholic scripture can’t raise up the dead
So the scream on that little girl’s lips goes forever unsaid
Track Name: Any Say
Shafts of sunlight paint an underwater scene
Of golds and reds and lazy dusty streams
Pools of light to the shadows give chase
I can see the faintest of smiles across your face

A wave of goosebumps ripples down your neck
A shudder and shiver, quick gasp of breath
The rolling breeze chills us to the bone
But with your arms around me I know that I am home

At least if I had any say
That’s how things would be
The only way things are looking today
No matter what I do you won’t make this easy on me
No matter what I do you won’t make this easy on me

To have you here may be too much to wish
So I guess I’ll settle for a half dreamed of kiss
And hope that the notes from this melody
Are enough to convince me you will be here with me

At least if I had any say
That’s how things would be
The only way things are looking today
No matter what I do you won’t make this easy on me
No matter what I do you won’t make this easy on me

It’s just a matter of time
One day will lead to the next one
Until this distance is closed
I have no choice but to hold on
Hold on
Hold on
At least if I had any say
That’s how things would be
The only way things are looking today
No matter what I do you won’t make this easy on me
No matter what I do you won’t make this easy on me
Track Name: Firewalk
Firewalk with me
Say our hopes, my dreams
Places we have been
Whose blue eyes did you see?

On your
Firewalk with me
Tell me things I’ve seen
The world spun ‘neath our feet
I’d hate to fade away

This road we walk down
Lined with burning coals
You escort me now
Harboring my soul
When they burn you
The scars don’t heal in time

Firewalk with me
Where burnished blues grow dim
The past strays on a whim
Hold tight to your memory

Of your
Firewalk with me
Hold me close, my dear
Through loneliness and fear
I think I’ve lost my way

My mind is searching
Hands laid on the ground
Ashen footprints
Following them down
Without your fire
The ground it cools in kind

Firewalk with me
Say our hopes, my dreams
Places we have been
Your eyes are all I see

On your
Firewalk with me
Remember me like this
My love sealed with a kiss
I’m just down the road
From you
Track Name: Sunset Express
Disco ball windows
Glimmering lanterns
Chrome metal serpent
Stretching twelve city blocks
I'd like to be with you
When the buildings start crumbling
I'd like to be moving on
The Sunset Express

I like when the mountains
Are not made by humans
And the canyons and valleys
Are all covered in grass
I like when your language
Isn't polluted
By the poisonous echoes
Of your ancestors’ past

But the songs that you sing never change
No matter how you try to arrange
The words are different but the thought is the same

The evening is glowin’
An unhealthy crimson
The sunlight is showin’ us
Our fiery path
Steel wheels are rollin’
The skyline’s ablaze
Our unbottled genie
Will have the last laugh

I remember an era
When sunrise was endless
Our worries were whispers
Strewn about by the wind
Do you remember the garden
We raised for our children
Now I'm stuck in this purgatory
On the Sunset Express

The conductor’s in a black robe today
And his glass eyes shimmer with the flames
His voice is a rasp through the filters on his face

Those four tired horsemen
Turned in their tickets
Time to go home now
The work here is done
A look of frustration
Hangs off their faces
We did their job for them
They missed out on the fun

The stars are all out again
Just as ages before
But there's no one to see them
No, not anymore
Train tracks are silent
There’s a night mist’s caress
Only one destination on
The Sunset Express
